Mother Is the Real Wonder Woman

Ode to Mothers

Winifred J. Akpobi

--

Mother is kind
Mother cradles my tender head
Mother sweats to raise my stubborn self
Mother is benevolent — she gave me a name
No one can be like Mother

Mother is fantastic
Mother caters to my needs
Mother always serves my meals, I hope she doesn’t forget her share
Mother sacrificed her needs to gift me life
No one can be as versatile as Mother

Mother is excellent
Mother sleeps with an eye to check for mosquitoes
Mother cries when pain swallows me
Mother — she feeds my soul with compassion
No one can love me like Mother

Mother is extraordinary
Mother prays when I fall ill
Mother has a beautiful soul; she heals me with her smile
Mother, please do not leave me
No one can replace Mother
